Jeffery grazed his index finger along the edge of the tire tread. He raised his hand to his mouth and licked his fingers. His mind’s eye saw a burst of images all at once. He sucked wind hard into the pit of his lungs holding it in for as long as he could. He felt like his eyes were going to pop out of his skull. When he couldn’t take it anymore, he let go, and swallowed huge mouthfuls of air. It was too much, he thought. But he knew he was getting closer. He stood up, back aching. He flexed his head back and forth cracking the small bones in his neck. This body wasn’t going to hold up for much longer, but he was close, he surmised. Oh, was he close. The last image he saw he held tight in his mind: a neon sign, a small window, a glowing light. And thanks to his latest update, he knew exactly where it was.
